Istvan Urban

Bone Regeneration vs Short Implants

Dr. Istvan Urban is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontology and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He received his DMD and MD degrees from Semmelweis University School of Medicine and Dentistry in Budapest, Hungary, in 1991 and 1996. He subsequently completed a full-time programme in oral surgery at St. Istvan Hospital in Budapest (1992–1996) and an internship in periodontics at UCLA. Following graduation from the Fellowship Program in Implant Dentistry at Loma Linda University, California (1999–2000), he was appointed Assistant Professor the following year. Dr. Urban is licensed in the state of California and maintains a private practice in Budapest, Hungary.

Dr. Urban received his PhD in Periodontology in 2012 from the University of Szeged, Hungary, where he currently serves as an honorary professor. He is a board member of the Osteology Foundation and has published numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters on bone regeneration, soft tissue reconstructive surgery, and dental implants. Dr. Urban is the author of the textbook Vertical and Horizontal Augmentation, published by Quintessence and translated into 12 languages, and recently authored Vertical 2: The Next Level. He lectures extensively at national and international conferences.

Ronny Jung

Short Implants vs Bone Regeneration

Prof. Dr. Ronald E. Jung is Chairman and Clinic Director of the Clinic of Reconstructive Dentistry at the Center for Dental Medicine, University of Zurich, Switzerland. A specialist in prosthodontics, implant therapy and oral surgery, he completed his postgraduate training in prosthodontics before beginning an academic career focused on implant dentistry and reconstructive treatment concepts.

In 2006 he was appointed Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, USA. In 2011 he received his PhD from the University of Amsterdam (ACTA), The Netherlands. In 2013 he served as Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences at Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston, USA.

Prof. Jung is an internationally recognised lecturer and researcher, particularly known for his work on the management of hard and soft tissues and the development of new technologies in implant dentistry. He currently serves as President of the ITI and is Past-President of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) and the Swiss Society of Reconstructive Dentistry. He is also a member of the Board of the Osteology Foundation.

 

Peter Brennan OBE

Understanding and Applying Human Factors to Improve Patient Safety and Team Working in Implant Dentistry

Professor Peter Brennan is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Portsmouth, specialising in head and neck cancer, with a personal chair in Surgery for his research and education achievements. He has over 890 publications, with >100 on patient safety, team working and human factors (HF). He is a committed trainer and educator. Peter won the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) 2022 Silver Scalpel Award – the most prestigious accolade for training excellence across all 10 UK surgical specialties. He has edited 10 specialty textbooks and is Lead Editor of Gray’s Surgical Anatomy which receives worldwide acclaim.

Peter has established unique collaborations with airline pilots, National Air Traffic Services (NATS) and the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (Red Arrows), translating HF lessons in to healthcare. His work improves practice for medical and dental specialties, and allied healthcare professions and includes reducing authority gradients, enhancing team working and raising awareness of many personal factors to reduce error. He has educated High Court criminal judges, coroners and senior police officers about human error. 

In 2019, Peter was awarded a PhD entitled ‘Applying HF to Improve Patient Safety.’ He works with the Royal Colleges, GMC and many other organisations to help improve patient safety and better teamworking. He promotes equality, diversity and training at every opportunity. He has been awarded numerous prizes and accolades for this work, including two Honorary Fellowships from the Edinburgh and Glasgow Royal Colleges of Surgeons. Peter was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the King’s 2025 Birthday Honours list for his work. He receives ever increasing invites from both the UK and around the world to teach and promote HF, patient safety and team working.

Richard Porter

Emotional Intelligence and Communication

Richard qualified in 1999 and completed Foundation year training covering general practice, restorative dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. He entered specialist training and was appointed a Restorative Dental Consultant in 2007. He was care group lead of a dental department for 7 years and also
runs a specialist referral practice.

He is cofounder of the Aspire Dental Academy which teaches a variety of courses to postgraduate dentists from all over the UK and Europe. Richard became interested in Emotional Intelligence and the underlying psychology of human interaction and its role in health, education, human flourishing and litigation risk and has been a post graduate scholar in this field for over a decade.

He became a formal post graduate student of Personality Psychology and Human Behavioural Cognition in 2019.

Maja Chmielewska

Maja Chmielewska is a private practitioner, with the focus on digital protocols in implant dentistry, education, and practice management.

She graduated from the Medical University of Warsaw, spent a year in CAD/CAM material research and as a teaching assistant in Los Angeles and acquired her masters’ degree in implantology and periodontology from DTMD University in Luxemburg.

Dr Maja has been actively involved in education, lecturing in more than 25 countries, and participating in multiple online education events. She is a co-author of of the “Guided Surgery” book and an ITI Fellow. She co-leads the Young ITI Study Club in Poland.

Kishan Sheth

Implant Dentistry and the Law

Dr Kishan Sheth BDS, PGCert (Dental Law) UOB, MSc (Implant Dentistry) URJC is an associate dentist with special interests in surgical and implant dentistry, restorative dentistry and facial aesthetics. He graduated from King’s College London in 2018 and was runner-up for the prestigious Jose Souyave Prize for excellence in root canal treatment before completing his vocational training in Central London.

Dr Sheth has undertaken extensive postgraduate training, including advanced education in cosmetic and restorative dentistry with Dr Chris Orr at Advanced Dental Seminars and further training in oral surgery and surgical implantology with Dr Alfredo Valencia and the team at Doctores Valencia. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Law and Ethics from the University of Bedfordshire and a Master’s degree (MSc) in Implant Dentistry from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid. He is also currently undertaking a Master of Surgery degree in Aesthetic Medicine at University College London.

An active lecturer and author, Dr Sheth has presented at national and international conferences and has published widely in the dental press. He serves as Honorary Editor of DentaltownUK and sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Oral Medicine. His professional interests include implant dentistry, clinical governance and the legal and ethical aspects of modern dental practice.

Jeniffer Perussolo

Built to Last: Maintaining and Restoring Peri-Implant Health

Dr Jeniffer Perussolo is a Clinical Lecturer in Periodontology at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), where she is also a member of the Centre for Oral Clinical Research and the Centre for Oral Bioengineering. She obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG), Brazil, before completing specialist training in Periodontology as well as a Master’s degree and PhD at the State University of Maringá (UEM), Brazil.

She further developed her research career through a prestigious Osteology Foundation Research Scholarship at QMUL’s Centre for Oral Clinical Research, where she subsequently continued as a Clinical Research Fellow. Her academic work focuses on Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, with particular interests in wound healing and regenerative therapies.

Dr Perussolo is actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at QMUL, delivering lectures, clinical supervision and research mentoring. She has published widely in peer-reviewed scientific journals and contributed to book chapters, and also serves as a reviewer for several international journals.

She is actively engaged in the international scientific community as a member of the Osteology Foundation Expert Council, the National Osteology Group UK Leadership Team and the European Association of Osseointegration (EAO) Junior Academy.

Ignacio Pedrinaci

Bio-Restorative Synergy in Posterior Sites

Dr Ignacio Pedrinaci DDS, MSc is a lecturer and researcher in implant dentistry at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he is involved in teaching and clinical research within the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences. He previously completed the prestigious ITI Scholarship in the Advanced Graduate Implant Dentistry Program at Harvard under the mentorship of Prof. German Gallucci.

Dr Pedrinaci graduated Summa Cum Laude in Dentistry from the University of Granada, Spain, and undertook part of his undergraduate training through the Erasmus+ programme at the University of Oslo, Norway. He subsequently completed a Master of Science in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he also obtained board certification from the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) under the mentorship of Prof. Mariano Sanz.

His academic and clinical work focuses on implant dentistry, digital treatment workflows, peri-implant diseases and regenerative therapies. Dr Pedrinaci has authored numerous scientific publications and lectures internationally on contemporary concepts in implant and restorative dentistry. He continues to combine academic teaching and research with clinical practice, contributing to the advancement of evidence-based and digitally driven implant dentistry.

Jasper Thoolen

MDT Ted Talk 1

Dr Jasper Thoolen graduated in Dentistry from Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in 2016. He obtained his certification as a Prosthodontist from the European Prosthodontic Association in 2024. Dr Thoolen practices at Lassus Tandartsen in Oisterwijk, where his clinical focus is on restorative and reconstructive dentistry, digital smile design, digital workflows, orthodontics and implantology.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Thoolen is actively involved in postgraduate education and professional training. He is an internationally recognised speaker, presenting at dental congresses and symposia around the world, and serves as a trainer for several post-academic education programmes.

Dr Thoolen is also a regular contributor to professional dental publications and is a key opinion leader for a number of internationally respected dental companies. He is one of the five founders of the online education platform KARMA Dentistry, an initiative dedicated to advancing digital dentistry and modern clinical workflows through accessible global education.

Azim Malik

MDT Ted Talk 2

Dr Azim Malik BDS, MFDS RCSEd, DipPCD RCSI, MPerio RCSEd is a GDC-registered Specialist in Periodontics with particular expertise in periodontal surgery and implant dentistry. He graduated from the University of Birmingham School of Dentistry in 2011 before undertaking vocational training and hospital posts in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Basildon & Thurrock University Hospital and Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, where he gained experience in managing complex surgical cases including impacted teeth, facial trauma and reconstructive procedures.

Dr Malik was elected a Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MFDS RCSEd) in 2012 and subsequently completed the Diploma of Primary Care Dentistry at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (DipPCD RCSI) in 2014. He later completed specialist training in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry at the Royal London Dental Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust, and was awarded Membership in Periodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MPerio RCSEd).

His clinical interests include surgical periodontal therapy, bone and soft tissue regeneration, management of gingival recession and dental implant therapy. He is committed to delivering patient-centred care and has a particular interest in treating anxious patients.

Krzysztof Lewandowski

Development in the world of Digital – Lab vs. Clinic

Krzysztof is a qualified dental technician and CAD/CAM designer with extensive experience in digital dentistry and implant workflows. He earned his degree as an Engineer of Materials in Dental Technology from the University of Dental Engineering / Medical College of Dental Technology in Poland.

With more than 14 years of experience working in both dental laboratories and implant clinics across Poland and the United Kingdom, Krzysztof has developed significant expertise in digital implant planning and advanced restorative workflows. He is currently based in Bangor, Northern Ireland, where he works as a CAD/CAM designer at Marlborough Digital Lab in Belfast.

Krzysztof has a particular interest in guided implant surgery and complex digital treatment planning. He regularly works with advanced software platforms including Exocad, RealGuide and SMOP to design sophisticated solutions such as stackable surgical guides and immediate full-arch protocols, including “Teeth in a Day”.

Throughout his career he has managed fully digital workflows, integrating technologies such as 3D printing and milling to deliver precise and predictable restorative outcomes. He is committed to advancing digital innovation in implant dentistry and has been a member of the ITI since 2026.
